இன்று வேட்டி தினமாம். டிவிட்டரில் தெரிந்து கொண்டேன். ராம்ராஜ் நிறுவனத்தின் வியாபார தந்திரங்களில் ஒன்றாக இருக்கும் என்று நினைத்தேன். ஆனால் சகாயம் இ.ஆ.ப (IAS) கோ ஆப்டெக்ஸ் கூட்டுறவின் தலைவராக இருக்கும் போது கொண்டு வந்த முயற்சியாம் இது.
கிட்டத்தட்ட வாரத்தின் பாதி நாட்களில் வேட்டி கட்டுபவன் நான். சமீப காலமாக நாற்பதை நெருங்கிய பின் இது அதிகரித்திருக்கிறது.
நான் கீழக்கரை கல்லூரியில் பொறியியல் படிக்கப் போகும் வரை வேட்டி கட்டியதில்லை. சென்னையில் இருந்து கீழக்கரை அதிக தூரம் என்பதால் சிறு விடுமுறைகளுக்குக் கோனாபட்டில் இருக்கும் பெரியப்பா வீட்டிற்குப் போவது வழக்கமாயிற்று. பெரியப்பா பள்ளித் தலைமை ஆசிரியர். ஊரிலேயே இருந்ததனால் அடிக்கடி விசேஷ வீடுகளுக்குப் போய் வர வேண்டி வரும். கூடவே என்னையும் அழைத்துப் போவார், கண்டிப்பாக வேட்டி கட்ட வேண்டும் என்ற கட்டளையுடன். அப்படித் தான் வேட்டி கட்டப் பழகியது.
ஊரிலேயே திருமணமும் நடை பெற்றதால் ரிசப்ஷனுக்கு கோட் சூட் போட வேண்டிய அபாயத்தில் இருந்து தப்பித்தேன். அதற்கும் வேட்டி சட்டை தான்.
மீண்டும் சென்னை வந்த பின் சில வருடங்கள் பொங்கல், தீபாவளி அன்று மட்டும் வேட்டி கட்டி வந்தேன். நாள் ஆக ஆக வேட்டி கட்டுவது மிக சவுகரியமானது என்ற முடிவுக்கு வந்தேன். வேட்டி அணிந்து இரு சக்கர வாகனம் ஓட்டுவதும் பழகிப் போனது.

வேட்டி கட்டிக் கொள்வதால் பாரம்பரியம் காக்கிறேன் என்றெல்லாம் கதை விடப் போவதில்லை. எனக்குப் பிடித்திருக்கிறது, வசதியாக இருக்கிறது; வேறென்ன காரணம் வேண்டும்?
