தூண்டில் மீனின்

துடிப்புகளைப் பாடுவதற்காய்

மட்டுமே நான்

ஆற்றோரம் காத்திருக்கிறேன்

அரை நிர்வாணிகளுக்காயில்லை

 

It's only

to voice the struggles

of hooked fish,

I wait in river banks

Not for half naked women.

தவறி விழுந்த

குஞ்சுப்பறவை

தாயைப்போலவே 

தானும் பறப்பதாய்

நினைத்தது.

தரையில் மோதிச்சாகும்வரை.

 

Travel

 

The baby bird

that fell out

of its nest

thought 

it flew

just like its mom.

Till crashing dead on the floor.

அந்திக்கருக்கலில்
இந்தத்திசை தவறிய
பெண்பறவை
தன் கூட்டுக்காய்
அலைமோதிக் கரைகிறது.
எனக்கதன் கூடும் தெரியும்
குஞ்சும் தெரியும்
இருந்தும்
எனக்கதன்
பாஷை தெரியவில்லை.

Fate

 

In dark sundown,

this lost

female bird,

in search of its nest,

cries desperately.

I know its nest,

its nestlings,

But 

its language,

I don't know.

Kalapria is one of the new wave of poets who started writing in 1970s. He is popular among the readers of contemporary Tamil literature. He is well known for his metaphors fashioned out of day to day life. His poems are perfectly crafted and paint a picture to the reader.
