ISO - a hoax

I strongly feel that ISO certification is the biggest hoax on the corporate world, wrought by some European Consultants who had too much time at hand. ISO certifiation improves quality - and Laloo was the best CM in India. I have been involved in ISO certification processes and know the tricks we did to clean up our books and fool the auditors.

Why this rant now? Some clients expect me to get ISO certification for potato selling too. Death to them.

Another big joke is how some IT firms get their CMM certification.

ISO certifying organizations have a vested interest in "passing" a company as they get a larger fee that way as against if they "fail" a company

Ramz, mostly it is confuse and corrupt.

Karthek, no wonder Indian companies get CMM levels so easily.

Ideamani, in my second company (a software firm), the company didn't have any projects at all for about a year. So the ISO auditor will turn up, review the project that was reviewed in the last audit and declare that we are certified. The same project was reviewed thrice before I quit the company :-)

Deepa, it is year end, and empannelling of vendors is happening. And as a vendor every form I fill up asks for ISO certification. When everybody knows that this is a seat of the pants decision making business. If you thought about the phrase, it is the influence of you know who :-)
