Sundara Ramasamy is no more

Tamil writer Sundara Ramasamy passed away on Oct 15th in USA. I learnt about him only about 4 years back and have read his two novels "Oru Puliyamarathin Kathai" and "JJ Sila Kurippugal". I consider the first one as one of the best Tamil Novels I have read.

I saw him during the last two Madras book fairs and heard his speech on the occassion of Asokamithran's felicitation function. He held the audience captive with his subtle humour, a landmark of his writing. I haven't read his poetry (written under the pseudonym Pasuvaiaah), but have heard that they are really good. R.I.P. Sir.

That is quite sad.

I liked Oru Puliyamarathin Kadhai a lot, it would definitely make my list of top ten Tamil books. His humor, like you say, is very different from regular Tamil novel humor... a very good writer.

It is a great lose to the tamil literature community,,,Only a few years ago, i came to know about him when i had been browsing tamil books at Chennai's Higginbothams, as he had completely ignored so-called public entertainment magazines such as Ananda Vikatan and Kumudam etc (this is just one part of his amazing extra-ordinary personality),,,
I bought his "Oru puliamarathin Kathai" and "JJ sila kurippugal" and read them around 5 times so far,,,Then i realized that there are really a few extra-ordinarily talented tamil writers who had or atleast tried to escalate the quality of tamil literature to world standard,,,After reading his novels ( only 3 ) and short stories and his writings on famous people such as Jeeva, Chellappa, Krishnan Nambi, etc, i really do have contempt for many popular writers in tamil who are nothing and absolutely sickening as per the quality of the content of their writings,,,
I only wish that he had written many novels such as "JJ Sila kurippugal" and i wish that i had known much earlier in my life time so that i would not have wasted my time in reading the rubbish of tamil's so-called (self-claimed) great writers,,,

Ganesan, true. I too am one of those who started with AV/Kumudam and fortunately found about Su Raa, Thi Jaa, Aadhavan and others.

I am very much heartened to read the genuine obituries written by famous Tamil writers such as Prapanjan, Jaya mohan and Sujatha on Su.Ra,,,
I am much interested in knowing what is the opinion of Jayakanthan (in fact, i want to really know the opinion of Su.Ra on Jayakanthan) on Su.Ra's writings,,,

hi iam raja frm pondy
I heard about his death after 2 weeks. When i saw this news in india today, i was shocked , because according to me personally Mr.Sundara Ramasamy is very important. Iam quite impressed by him a lot, his novel JJ sila kuripugal opens more and more ideas about life and litearure. I can't belive this.. most popular magzines or daily newspapers fail to publish the news of great man's death (as usual), but this is very unfortunate, very very unfortunate. we are busy with news like income tax raids in cine stars houses..

hi all..
right now i am reading the first novel of Su.Ra. it's impressive. the way it's narrated is extraordinary. i think, when i finish i would be totally mesmerised by his writing.
i have already read "JJ.Sila Kuripuigal"..but i was unable to follow the piece. it was confusing and i was totally lost in the novel.

Can anyone explain to me why i felt like that...morever explain to me what's the author wished to convey through his master peice??
