Truck No. 3 and a visit to Manappadu

We took delivery of our third truck last Sunday.

After the customary visit to Tiruchendur, my sister said she had heard about the famous church in Manappadu, a small fishing hamlet further down the coast. Since we had nothing better to do, we decided to go there.

It was a pleasant surprise. The church legend says that the cross was planted here by a Portugese captain in 1540 and St. Francis Xavier built the church in 1580. The original cross made out of the Ship's mast head is still being worshipped is what the claim for popularity is. The church is popular locally and attracts good crowd during the Good Friday festivities. On other days it is completely deserted. When we went, the church was under renovation.

You might identify this church better, if I told you this was the church in the Tamil movie "Iyarkai".

The church is situated on top of a sand dune. The other side of the sand dune ends in the sea, literally a private beach with not a soul around.

The view from the sand dune was breath taking. It was an unexpected pleasure on a hot sunny day.
