While cleaning my shelf today, I came across this verse used to teach Tamil alphabet to children. It was handwritten, I have no idea who wrote it and what is the source. But it is an interesting verse, so if you need to teach Tamil alphabet to children use this. First letter of each line consists of the Tamil uyir ezhuthu.
அழகு மயிலே வா! வா!
ஆடும் மயிலே வா! வா!
இறகில் இருக்கும் கண்ணாடி
ஈந்தால் நானும் மகிழ்வேனே.
உச்சிக் கொண்டை அழகு
ஊரில் நாட்டில் உண்டோ சொல்?
என்னை மயக்கும் உன்னாட்டம்
ஏற்றம் கொண்டது உன் தோகை.
ஐயம் இன்றித் தேர்ந்துள்ளார்
ஒரு தேசியப் பறவை நீயென்று.
ஓடிப் பறந்து வருவாயே
ஒளவைப் பாட்டைக் கேட்பாயே!
