And you thought only tech geeks and Copy writers blog

This is my new vehicle. So geeks and writers, know that truck owners also blog :-). I have ventured into truck owning as part of my investment plan. No, I am not quitting potato selling. This venture is being run by my brother in law who is in this field. I am just a part owner of this trailer. Now comes the thanks note. All the credit is due to my wife, for earning more than her share of family income and importantly letting me invest the proceeds as I wish.

Cool Mate.

1.Where is it operating from?
2.What is the "primary" 'load material'/
3.Are you on a contract with some industry or is it avlble for general use through a broker?
4. I see that it does have a national permit, are you willing to send it on long trips? - or have you settled for a short, regular route/
5. Have you employed a driver or are they on contract basis?

ok - i have lots more. But ...

Nilu, I had this idea last september and it took me 1 year to realise this. When I read your post on trucks I immediately thought there is some one who reads the situation as I do. To answer you

1. Base is Tuticorin
2. Primary load material is containers to ICDs/importers
3. Available for general use through a broker. For contracts you need a fleet, 1 is not enough
4.NP is just in case. Primarily on short regular route.
5. I have employed a driver on a variable pay

Great Chenthil, I think Tuticorin is a good location. Can you give me an update on the highways on that part?

And for contracts, there is also a the added problems of seasonal contract. Our fleet suffered a bad bout of that about a decade ago.

Ramz, Lazy, Chakra - Thanks for your wishes.

Lazy - the copy writer doesn't have access to net for the next few days, so no comments from him.

Nilu - Tuticorin is good because of the increase in container movements. It might become better with Sethu Samudram project, but personally I doubt whether the project will be a success. Highways leading from Tuticorin to Madurai, Coimbatore are pretty decent. I haven't thought much about the contracts at this stage. The first priority is to pay off the loan.

Excellent! I did have some questions - thanks to Nilu I got them answered. I hope you post updates, like for instance when you expand the territory and so forth. After all, blogs written by truck owners are rare ;)
