Chawla's Restaurant - Chennai

Chawla's is the latest addition to Chennai's food scene. It is part of Ludhiana based Chawlas group and hence are 'authentic' :-). The restaurant is situated in a lane off Greams Road, and is a straight forward place with no frills.

The food is heavenly, I can't find any other word to describe it. For starters you have Vegetarian Haryali Kebab which looked like a cutlet. But the tanginess of the ingredients made it great. For main course I ordered Onion Kulchas and Paneer Kali Mirchi. The Paneer Kali Mirchi was a revelation, the spiciness of Black Pepper a welcome change from the usual bland Paneer Butter Masala. The Kulchas were soft and excellent. The Chicken Briyani was cooked without any artificial coloring and was well done. Mixed Raitha for the Briyani had Panner pieces and the quantity was large. The scene stealer was the dessert, Ice cold Rice kheer, a perfect ending to the evening.

If you are calory conscious, you are in for a shock. A dinner at Chawla's will lead to a jump in your calory scale.

Dinner for two costs about Rs. 300.00. They also have a take away counter - 28293051.
