QUIT 2017 - Day 3

QUIT 2017 - Day 3

Day 3 we had originally planned to take a full day boat cruise in Godavari River. Then we had second thoughts about being held captive in a boat for the whole day. So decided to skip it in favour of some more driving along the river.

We took a 20 minute complimentary boat ride offered by the hotel. The boat was supposed to start at 8.30 AM but there were so many late arrivals that we had to wait in the boat for nearly half an hour for a 20 minute boat ride. All that irritation vanished once we started. It was a short ride (duh!) from the resort to the bridges and back. The grandeur of the river cannot be expressed in words. The weather too was perfect for an open boat ride.

After breakfast decided to drive to Pattiseema Veerabadhra Swamy temple. It is a temple situated in a small hillock in the middle of Godavari, about 35 km from Rajahmundry. The drive was scenic with the river playing hide and seek on the right while the left was full of green paddy fields.
A pleasant drive with the river on one side, paddy fields on the other, and Raja on music player.

To reach the temple you have to take a short 5 minute boat ride. There was one rickety boat serving the devotees. It didn't inspire much confidence but there was no other way to reach the island. So off we went. Thankfully it was a short ride.

The temple wasn't crowded as today was not a festival day. The view from atop the hillock temple was excellent. The river stretched as far as eyes can see. I have been gushing too much about Godavari, I know, but every word of it is true.

After half an hour at the temple, took the boat back to where we had parked the car. The restaurant in the resort was crowded so ordered room service. By now we knew that just one plate of rice and two curries were enough for three of us :-)

Slept in and woke up to see yet another Indian ODI win. Tomorrow is jam packed planning and we have to start early in the morning.

Total distance travelled so far: 850 km
