QUIT Day 5

Day 4 was spent in Mumbai with Engineering collegemates. Planned to leave Mumbai early but got delayed due to late night discussion with friends.

Today's plan was to drive to Surat and take a break. Started at 8.45 from Mumbai, which was a mistake. The entire drive was spent driving behind trucks going to Vapi. What was supposed to be a 4 hour drive took nearly 5.5 hours.

The drive was made bearable by the songs played in the car. Long drives make you focus on the lyrics which you might have missed normally. Today's find was the stanza from classic MSV song எங்கேயும் எப்போதும் starring Rajini and Kamal.

தித்திக்க தித்திக்க பேசிக்கொண்டு
திக்குகள் எட்டிலும் ஓடிக்கொண்டு
வரவை மறந்து செலவு செய்து
உயர பறந்து கொண்டாடுவோம்

Which roughly translates as
Talking sweet nothings,
Wandering in all directions,
Spending without a thought of income,
Let's fly high and celebrate.

Some songs are made to be sung along loudly. This is one of those :-)

We were welcomed with a lavish Rajasthani spread for lunch by her 12th Standard classmate who is now in Surat.

After a fulfilling lunch, reached the hotel. Then took an auto to go shopping. Auto driver asked for 180.00 Rs. Her friend had told us it will cost us only about Rs. 100.00. So my wife negotiated it down to "Ded Sau" which she thought was 125.00. While getting down we realised that it means 150.00. Lesson learned for the day.

She went off with her friend to do the usual things in Surat - eating Locho, Pokh Sev and shopping Saris. I slept off at the hotel.
Who is Mr. Gopal?

Sev with Pokh. Tasted heavenly.
If in Surat, shop Saris.
07.12.2016 was our sixteenth wedding anniversary. I didn't get her any diamonds. But I took her to Surat, the diamond capital of India. That should count for something, right?

Total distance covered so far: 1875 kilometers.
