காதலிக்கத் தான் செய்கிறோம் - We still do love each other

We still do love each other.

Even after the
first attraction
first spring of love
first sweaty sex
we still do love each other.

We still do hurt each other

By stinging words
sharp looks
heavy silence
we still do hurt each other.

Is the love real? Or the hurt?
Both are real, the love and the hurt.
We love each other to hurt
We hurt each other to love.

Thanks Ashok. I wrote it in Tamil first and then tried the English version. என்ன இருந்தாலும் நம்ம தமிழன் தானே

I see you translate yourself as loosely as you translate other people! I too prefer the Tamil version, more alliteration, less stilted.

Anon, thanks for being a regular reader. If you are in Chennai, can we meet for coffee?

எனக்கு பயம்!

இப்போது நான் சென்னையில் இல்லை, ஆனால் முக்கியமாக பயம்.

Thanks Atham.

Anon - why should you be afraid of me. I want to meet you to thank for consistently reading and being a critic. There is a lot of truth in what you say (though it is hard for me to accept).

Long time reader, first time commenter. I loved this poem. I am Tamizh, but grew up speaking/reading more English than Tamizh. Over time, all the thinking has been in English also, an auto-translate kicks in in Tamizh conversations. Even there, getting emotional/passionate promptly flips me back to English - ranting is so much easier there.
Point of all this wordy context - I loved the Tamizh version. I read it slowly (ezhuthu kooti, ezhuthu kooti), but loved it so much more. Something utterly natural and simple about it. Good stuff.
