Down the Western Ghats and Up the East Coast

I can't claim to be a traveholic, but last year's road trip made me yearn for more. So this year I am planning to travel along Tamil Nadu's border in a car, starting from tomorrow. The tentative route is Chennai - Vellore - Krishnagiri - Hogenakkal - Mettur - Sathiyamangalam - Coimbatore - Pollachi - Palani - Theni - Thekkady - Theni - Rajapalayam - Tenkasi - Nagercoil - Kanniyakumari - Tiruchendur - Tuticorin -Sayalkudi - Ramanathapuram - Thondi - Muthuppettai - Nagappatinam - Chidambaram - Cuddalore - Pondicherry - Chennai. It is about 1900 kms, spread over 9 days. So it is going to be an easy drive, focussing more on spending time rather than munching miles.

Last year I wrote a bland post about the trip. My fellow traveler, my wife read it and said "I know that I didn't marry Pico Iyer. But is this the best you could do?". So this year, I will try to record my experiences each day for the next 10 days. Let me see whether the proximity of the travel improves my writing skills. So, all 10 of my regular blog readers, do check for regular blog posts next week.

I envy you your trip, I've always wanted to travel around... but then think about the difficulty of finding acceptable bathrooms and then my enthusiasm fades.

Just be a bit careful with the heat.
