Lullabies

One of the good things with a new kid at home is that you get to hear long forgotten lullabies. Here is my favorite Tamil lullaby, now doing rounds at our home. I especially like the second stanza where the mother mentions the tears of her new born.

Sheesh Chenthil. Why won't you put up a transliterated version alongside for us Tamil script challenged?

There was a lovely lullaby in some Balachander movie, about 'sleep, baby, until the river of your mother's tears goes into spate and rocks your cradle and wakes you up, sleep, baby...' Something like that, I think.

Do give me a readable version, please? We are script-challenged, only, no?

The song mentioned by Lalita is obviously Kanaana Poomagane, Kannurangu Suriyane(Thanneer Thanneer, 1981).

Chen, how about a top 10(or 5) listing of lullabies in tamil homes?

I, ISI mark tamilan me.

Missus Em, I truly hate transliteration. Anyhow will mail you the transliterated version. The next commenter has hinted on the song, let me check that.

TTM, good idea, will try.

TTM, thanks, I couldn't recall the name of the film.

Chen, it looks like I will have to relearn my Tamil alphabet. I used to be able to read cinema posters and write notation, but that skill is rusty. I will really appreciate the transliterated version if you mail me, and I promise, I'll try to puzzle it out myself from now on.
