That is the Madras Custom House in 1825, my office is situated behind the present day Custom House :-).
While googling for information about Madras I landed at this
British Library site. It had some good photographs and illustrations of Old Madras. Frederick Fiebig's name was seen in many of the photographs, and on googling his name I landed at an even
bigger treasure house. Type Madras in the search box and you will be transported to a different world. I am yet to go through all of them. You will find a picture of Ice house taken in 1840s, Bentinck's Building (the present day IG office), Parthasarathy temple and many more.

That's a beautiful building. Is the new Customs House the ugly looking tall one, with the 'government color scheme'? Thanks to people like S.Muthaiah, there are still a few heritage buildings left.
the govt doesnt seem to find th eneed to preserve its heritage, otherwise why else wud it plan on demolishing a building like the queen marrys college to make way for a new sectretariat?
screw the government. isn't it utpto people like us - who know aand care enough to somehting about it.
after all it is a democracy.....
tilotamma, protests of the people stalled the move, but its was initiated by people and hijacked by politicians, this is what i hate about the entire fiasco
the good news is that Madras univ is collecting money to restore senate house to its former glory
stalled was just the first step, right ? Glad to hear about the madras univ.
