College Reunion

We had our Engineering college reunion last week. It has been 20 years since we stepped into college. The norm is to celebrate the 20th year of completion of course, but we just needed a reason to get together. We were a batch of 180 students spread across Mechanical, Civil and ECE departments. 52 people attended the meet, which is a decent turn out considering half the class is in US or Gulf.

At the end of the meet a friend said "Almost all of them are earning well, but everybody looks careworn". The exact words he used were "எவன் முகத்துலயும் அருளே இல்ல”. I guess it is due to our age. Once you cross 35, the commitments start to weigh on your mind. More than that, you realize that almost half your life is over and all your dreams of achieving something are just that, dreams. So you desperately seek out your college day memories to assure yourself that you too enjoyed life once, carefree.

I am far more carefree now than I was in college! More money, more sense, less fear about how I will make a living/get a green card/find a place to live.

I don't have a spouse or children though, I hear that is what drains the joy out of peoples' lives.
