Yet another trip to Konapet

By now you should know that if I vanish for days together, it is for yet another trip to my native village, Konapet. A few photos from this trip. I have written a detailed travelogue with more photos in my Tamil Blog. (Updating it once a year doesn't make me a regular Tamil Blogger).

Nice pics especially the header.

Dont you think it would be a nice setting for vodkathon legs dipped in the tank and glass of chill vodka after a hot day ....... nice.

Now if only we could find a way past the temple authorities hmmm.

Say what the worst you chettys do to each other if you get caught boozing at the temple tank?

Buy a years supply of Absolut for the whole village??

A fitting punishment dont you think.

Should have never become associated with a drunkard sindhi. Amongst chettiars, drinking is considered a taboo. And wait till the Hindutva brigade pounces on you.

Konapet, is one of the few beautiful villages in that part of India. Far from the madding crowd you can relax on the banks of Alaga Perumal Oorani. I grew up there in Konapet (studied in both chiina school and periya school) situated just in front of my ancestral house (dr. Padmanabhan's house) and my family lived there from 1930 till 2002. I have some good photographs to share. Write to me at athreya54@yahoo.com. Padmanabhan Malayappan.

I was born in Konapet and studied upto SSLC in Sri Saraswathi High School, Konapet-1949. I was the beneficiary of the munificence of Nagarathar community.
Recently, I visited Konapet after a gap of 60 years. still it exhudes charm. Though many old houses and the agraharam wear deserted look, the temple and the tank are enchanting.
The High School had stalwarts like Dr. Appadurai (Ka. Appadurai), Dr. M. Sundaram and Pulavar Thillai Govindan and the Maths.wizar G. Rajagopala Iyer and the strict disciplinarain Aravamudu Iyenger (who was fondly called "sudusothu ayyangar" by his loving students.
